Visiting Sorrento in June | The definitive Guide

Sorrento, Sorrento by month, What to do in

June marks the official beginning of Summer and Sorrento and the entire Amalfi Coast enjoy a festive atmosphere from early morning.  Days are longer and the sun sets behind the Coast and the island of Capri at around 9.00 pm, bars and outdoor restaurants are busy throughout the day.  The heat is still bearable and evenings are pleasant especially by the sea. With schools finished for the summer holidays, beach clubs are filled, streets are less busy but there are still tourists who explore Sorrento Old Town,  the main street  Corso Italia, the harbour and the charming Marina Grande.

Sorrento in June : Things to do and Events

June marks the beginning of the “Bella Stagione” (the beautiful season) this is the phrase used when referring to Summer time.  For those born and raised in Sorrento, this month represents a  turning point between spring and the long summer break that goes on until the middle of September.  Carefree days, breathtaking sunsets and dinner outside by the sea. The Sorrento Peninsula is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday without giving up a unique experience.  From the discovery of the Amalfi Coast to a lovely swim in the blue waters of Capri Island.  Also going back, in Roman history by visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum Ruins.  The distance from Sorrento is only half an hour. Despite the flow of tourists, Sorrento preserves and offers a realistic and authentic portrait of Italian life and it is precisely for this reason, and for its infinite beauty, that it is worth booking an apartment, a villa or a room in the old town or along the more vibrant Corso Italia, a pedestrianised road with the best of Sorrento’s shops and cafès.

Sorrento in June: What to pack

Whether you have already planned your days or you are still undecided about what to do in Sorrento and Amalfi Coast in June, do not forget to bring a swimming costume, beach towel and flip-flops. In June, even people who are more sensitive to the cold, it’s time to dive into the crystal clear waters of the Sorrento Bay, Marina del Cantone or Capri. Especially in the first half of the month, before the schools finish, beach clubs are still quiet and uncrowded and offer all the services and amenities to spend a day in total relaxation.  You  can hire a sun lounger and beach umbrella, sip on a glass of wine or have lunch at the restaurant. For day tours do not forget shorts, t-shirt and walking shoes. In the evenings, I suggest to bring long sleeved shirts and a cotton cardigan, and a lightweight jacket. For boat trips to Capri and Amalfi Coast or in Pompeii ruins, where the temperature is warmer, I recommend a hat with a sun visor or an umbrella to protect you from the sun.

These are my personal recommendations for your visit to Sorrento in June:

    • A lightweight pashmina or scarf
    • T-shirts or shirts
    • A swimming costume and beach towel
    • Shorts or skirts
    • Good walking shoes and flip-flops
    • Bring a sunhat, a backpack or a travel bag to take with you when you visit places like the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompei Ruins
    • Bring a folding umbrella
