The Amalfi Coast Style Guide: A Packing List
Visiting the Amalfi Coast for the first time and not quite sure what to pack? Here’s everything you need to know from patterns and prints right down to footwear. From the stunning cliffs of Positano and Ravello to the iconic and instagrammable beaches of Capri and Sorrento, you want to make sure you’re dressed best ready to explore all there is to see. The Amalfi Coast showcases the best of classic Italian seaside style, the key is to feel elegant and comfortable without being too overdone, natural is always best.
Everyday Casual Wear
The dress code for day to day is pretty much casual, there is no need to be overdone especially in the hot weather and if you are spending your days exploring and walking around. Linen fabric clothing is always a great idea as it’s very light on your body and also breathable. A great tip to note is to always have a light cardigan handy with you, should the evening be a little chilly, it’s a great way to keep yourself warm and prepared if you end up needing an extra layer.
It’s also important to note that very short shorts are not appropriate in a number of hotels and restaurants and if you are planning on visiting churches or religious attractions you will be refused entry if your legs and arms are not covered. There is also a lot of stair-climbing in the Amalfi so we would suggest not to wear anything too tight for the day’s you’re planning on visiting the towns.
Patterns and Prints
The Amalfi Coast is the perfect place to wear all of your favourite bright colours and extravagant prints! From nautical stripes to lemon patterns, nothing is off limits.
A great style tip from us would be to think about the colours of your surroundings and the activities you’ll be doing that day, for example; If you were going lemon picking or limoncello tasting yellow, white or green would be perfect colours to compliment your surroundings, it also provides a great Instagrammable moment!
However if bright colours and prints aren’t your thing and you have a more classic style white is always a safe option! This way your beautiful surroundings, colours and textures compliment you, it’s adaptable to any part of the Amalfi you’ll be visiting especially when you have a lovely golden tan.
Accessories
What better excuse to wear all of your colourful accessories than visiting the breathtaking Amalfi Coast! Large hats and sunglasses are great items for not only sun protection but can also be used as your statement piece, colourful earrings and bright patterned hair ties are another great way to make your outfit stand out!
Bags are another important part of your outfit, providing great practicality if you’ll be spending most of your days exploring you want to make sure you have everything you need with you. For beach days large straw bags are perfect for carrying all of your essentials and for hiking and exploring days a simple small backpack is perfect!

Footwear
Think comfort! Whether you’re going to be spending your day on the beach of hiking the beautiful trails you want to make sure your footwear is appropriate and reliable. The towns of the Amalfi Coast, such as Positano, are characterised by steep little lanes, cobblestone streets and sometimes infinite flights of steps meaning you’ll want to avoid wearing any type of footwear that isn’t comfortable.
For leisurely strolls, walks to the beach of day trips to neighbouring towns, sandals and flip flops are perfect however for your hiking days we would recommend a nice comfortable pair of trainers. Most restaurants are also very casual so there’s not much need for heels of wedges however there are a select few where it would be more appropriate.
