Best Beaches in Positano, Amalfi Coast

When visiting the Amalfi Coast, especially for the first time, Positano is one of the places you simply must visit. When driving along the spectacular Amalfi Coast, the first cliffside town you will find is Positano, one of the most popular destinations in Europe, both for travellers with a love of picture perfect destinations to celebrities and influencers seeking a luxury weekend getaway. Positano is not only blessed with its great location and reputation but it also has four beautiful beaches as well as an additional secret one which we will share with you.

Spiaggia Grande, Positano

Looking to be fully immersed in the atmosphere and scenery of Positano? Then this is the place for you. The Spiaggia Grande features the most amazing and impressive back drop to all of your summer photo’s, a must if you are visiting Positano. It’s black sandy beach extends for about 800 metres, mostly owned by beach clubs with a small section for public use.

We recommend for you to go early in the morning to find the best spot near the shore. The Spiaggia Grande is where most of the beach clubs are located and offers you all of the usual comforts such as; sun-beds, umbrellas, showers and restaurants which is great if you’re looking to spend your whole day at the beach. It’s also located right by a small harbour where ferries depart for Sorrento and Amalfi, so to avoid any disruption we would recommend you to choose a place far left of the shore.

Pricing is also more reasonable here in terms of renting sun-beds and is preferred by the locals, there are also various beach clubs with all of the usual comforts and nice restaurants as well as also being an area free for the general public.

Marina di Praia

When visiting this beach, the best and advised hours to go are from 12:00 to 17:00, this is when the beach is surrounded by sun as it is set between two cliffs and on one side there is the Saracen tower of sighting called Torre a Mare. There is also one of the most romantic walks you can take that starts from the cliff and takes you directly down to the tower where you will find amazing sea-view panorama.

Marina di Praia is reachable through the gap in the guard-rail on the Amalfi road, a few metres before arriving to the centre of Praiano. If walking, you can take the Sita bus towards Positano from Sorrento station and get off at the nearest stop. If you are travelling by car, you can leave it at the end of the road near the pathway that takes you down or there is an area you can pay to park which is open during the summer.

Gavitella’s Beach

Here you will be able to witness and admire the most fantastic view of Li Galli’s Island, Capri and Positano, a breathtaking view that will make you forget about the 413 steps you took to reach this beach. This beach is 30 metres wide and there are some allocated areas open for the public, there is also a beach club further down which occupies most of the space. This is also one of the only beaches in the Amalfi where you can enjoy the sunrise till sunset, so is perfect for those who like to soak up the sun and get their beautiful Golden tan.

From the centre of Praiano, if traveling on foot, you can start your journey from San Gennaro’s church, following directions you will find the street that takes you to, as previously stated, the start of the staircase with 413 steps. This famous creek and hidden little beach is one you can already begin to see and admire from the Amalfi road. In fact, this little shore is famous precisely for it’s 30 metre tall bridge where on the first Sunday of July every year, an amazing diving competition takes place. The fjord is lit by the sun only a few hours during the day and to reach what was once a little fisherman’s village, you have to walk down a small path of almost 200 steps. A must see if you’re going to visit the Amalfi Coast, however it can only be visited from the top as for safety reasons the steps that bring you down to the fjord are now closed.

Best Beaches in Amalfi, Amalfi Coast

Lido degli Artisti, Amalfi

If you’re looking to visit a truly unique and secret place, Lido Degli Artisti is perfect place for you. You can either catch a free transfer boat from Amalfi which will take you directly to the beach front of if you’re feeling fit and healthy you can take the flight of stairs which run along the cliffside, please not the stairs can be uneven, steep and we wouldn’t recommend for those with small children or those of a more mature age.

Once arriving at the beach you can find every kind of amenity you will need to spend full day at the beach, from sun beds and loungers to even a bar and restaurant. The restaurant serves traditional Amalfitan food and of course their speciality is the freshly caught local fish, we recommend you to try the catch of the day and fritto misto for starters. There is also water sports activities such as kayaking that you can take part in, of course at an extra fee.
