Where do I need to wear a face mask this Summer?

So you’ve booked your summer holiday to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast and are now wondering, where do I need to wear a mask and should I bring one with me? In this article we have covered for you everything you need to know about wearing a mask in Italy this summer, where it is obligatory and where you will no longer need to wear one to ensure you are better prepared for your visit to Italy. Our best advice is to always have a face mask with you to ensure you are best prepared, in case you do not have one there are plenty of places in Italy you can purchase one for a small cost.

Shops and Supermarkets

When visiting supermarkets and grocery stores, currently it is required that you are obligated wear a face mask to enter. If you’re not wearing a mask you’ll most likely not be allowed to enter the shop and refused entry. Once inside the store social distancing is to be practised and it is advised that you keep a good distance from people around you. When purchasing lose fresh product such as fruits and vegetables it is also advisable to only touch and pick up the ones you are intending to buy.

Public Transport

If you’re taking public transport while in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, such as busses and trains, you must wear a face mask from the moment you enter the train station. Face masks are also to be worn throughout the whole journey of your trip until you are no longer on the train or bus. Due to social distancing there are now also a limited number of seating on board, you will find clearly displayed the areas you are no longer allowed to sit in to ensure there is good distance between all of the passengers.

Airports

Depending on which airline you are flying with, face masks are also required on board the plane and throughout your whole journey. Please note, once landing in Italy, even if your airline for some reason does not has a face mask requirement it is however required in the Italian airports so we would advise to have one ready just incase you are unsure. After landing in Italy and prior to going through the security passport check, you will also have your temperature checked at a safe distance to ensure you are well and safe to enter the country.

Beaches

There is no requirement for you to wear a protective face mask as you are in an open outside space so it is much easy to keep a good distance from those around you, especially since there will no longer very full and packed beaches as before since there is now a limit to how many people visit at once. Once at the beach and inside the bathing establishments all of the sun-beds, loungers and chairs have been positioned with a safe distance of 1 metre apart to ensure good social distancing.
