Consider that, especially during summer from June til end of August, you may find long lines and it may take hours before you get the first bus from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast. Reaching the towns of the Amalfi Coast can be a challenge if traveling by buses, especially if you are carrying large pieces of luggage because you will be on a very crowded bus.

If you are planning to take a ferry, you have to go to Molo Beverello harbour, reachable by taxi or bus.
Considering the ferry routes you have two options:

  • Take a ferry from Naples to Sorrento and then, another ferry, from Sorrento to Positano or Amalfi

From Naples to Positano/Amalfi

From Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi, instead, ferries depart approximately every two hours with Alilauro company. Lucibello introduced a route connecting Sorrento to Positano, the ferry departs at 7,40 pm and it takes about 40 minutes.
The ticket price varies is around 15€  per person, one way,  and they can be purchased online.
As a local, I advise to check the weather conditions in advance to check if ferries have been canceled due to bad weather or rough waves. You can bring luggage, strollers, animals and bicycles by paying a small extra fee ranging from €2.10 to €6.30.

The regural ferry service that connects Naples, Capri and Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast is active only during the summer season, from April until the end of October.
The scenario is absolutely wondeful but, if you are travelling by ferry, you may consider ferry connections and location of the accommodation/hotel you are staying. For istance, Positano is a vertical town and reaching the hilly side of the village may be tiring and frustrating if you have even a few pieces of luggage to deal with. So, once you arrive to your final destination then you either have to walk to your accommodation or you will have to hire a taxi.

One of the most frequent asked questions from our guests is, should I book the ticket in advance? It is always advisable to buy the ticket around 25 minutes before so you have the time for boarding and to be sure that there are no delays or cancellations for the trip.
