Let’s discover here quickest, most convenient, and safest methods of journeying from Naples to Sorrento, whether you’re departing from Naples Airport or Naples Central Train Station.

One of the questions we often get asked is what is the best way to get to Sorrento from Naples?

As well as what is the easiest and most comfortable to travel?

In my opinion the best way to get to Sorrento from Naples always depends on where you are departing and your starting location but regardless of this, the fastest, safest, and most comfortable way is by private transportation.

This method of travel is ideal and highly convenient if you are a family, part of a group of more than three people or are traveling with young children.

Private transportation is an ideal choice for those who:

  • Are departing from Naples Capodichino Airport, Naples train Station, Naples harbour or from your hotel or accommodation in Naples
  • Are travelling with family or small children, have bags and luggages and your group is more than 3 guests
  • Want to enjoy hassle-free transportation to your accommodation in Sorrento & Amalfi Coast with a private transfer service

  • Wish to include stops along the route for visits to the Pompeii ruins, Herculaneum ruins, Vesuvius, or Naples for an authentic pizza experience

Naples to Sorrento: By Train

If you are traveling by train from Venice, Florence, or Rome with Italo or Trenitalia (high-speed trains), you will arrive at Napoli Stazione Centrale on Piazza Garibaldi. From here, all you have to do is reach the Circumvesuviana line or the Campania Express and take the direct train from Naples to Sorrento. If you prefer to take public transport to reach Sorrento from Naples, deciding which one is best for you really depends on your needs and who you are traveling with.

  • Circumvesuviana:

The Circumvesuviana line is a railway line that connects Naples to Sorrento. Most of the trains are old and very crowded, do not have air conditioning and you often find yourself traveling on your feet. The journey time from Naples to Sorrento is about 90/120 minutes, but delays due to problems or strikes also occur. You can buy the train ticket from Naples to Sorrento at the Naples station, we advise you to go about twenty minutes before because there may be queues or crowds. To those who ask us if the Circumvesuviana is safe, the general advice is based on its reputation and existing reviews online. Aside from the lack of air conditioning and seating, the line is known for its delays and inconveniences. While there are no specific dangers to worry about, it is wise to stay vigilant and watch out for pickpockets. To avoid an overly crowded experience, it’s best to travel outside of peak hours, so you don’t have to travel in uncomfortably packed conditions.

  • CampaniaExpress:

The Campania Express is a train service specifically designed for tourists and commuters traveling from Naples to Sorrento. It provides air-conditioned carriages, guaranteed seating, and operates more efficiently than the Circumvesuviana, making it a preferable choice for many travelers. Unlike the Circumvesuviana, the Campania Express makes fewer stops, reducing travel time to approximately 50/60 minutes from Naples to Sorrento.

The stations served by the Campania Express include: Sorrento, Vico Equense, Castellammare di Stabia, Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri (Pompeii Scavi – Villa of the Mysteries), Torre Annunziata, Ercolano Scavi (Herculaneum Excavations Vesuvius), Naples Piazza Garibaldi, and Naples Porta Nolana. Tickets can be purchased up to 20 minutes before departure, and the cost for a one-way ticket is €15 or €25 per round trip.
