Things to Do and Events
June is officially the start of the ‘Bella Stagione’, translating to the beautiful season in english, this is the phrase used when Italians refer to summertime. For those born and raised in Sorrento, this month in particular represents the turning point between spring and the long summer break season that goes on right until the middle of September. The days are carefree enjoying breathtaking sunsets and beautiful dinners outside by the sea.
The Sorrento Peninsula is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday without giving up the opportunity to have a truly unique experience from discovering the Amalfi Coast to taking a lovely swim in the crystal clear waters of Capri, there is plenty for you to enjoy. If you’re a lover of Roman history and Italian culture, you can explore the Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins, located only half an hour away from Sorrento.
Despite the flow of tourists, Sorrento does very well in preserving its town and offers a very realistic and authentic window into the Italian lifestyle and it’s exactly for this reason, as well as its infinite beauty, that is ideal booking an apartment, or villa, in the Old Town or along the more vibrant Corso Italia, a pedestrianised road with the best shops and cafes Sorrento has to offer.

Weather and Temperature
Now that it’s June, summer has officially started in Sorrento, the temperatures are getting higher and even though it can get very hot, the towns on the Coast as well as the Island of Capri usually comes with a nice cool breeze. The average temperature is 25 degrees during the days and in the evening can still be as warm as a minimum of 19 degrees.
What to Pack
In the first half of the month, right before the schools finish, beach clubs are still uncrowded and offer all of the best services and amenities for you to spend a total day in relaxation mode. You can hire a sun lounger and umbrella, sip on a glass of wine and have lunch at one of the beach restaurants.
When going on day tours don’t forget shorts, t-shirts and walking shoes. In the evenings we suggest you bring a long sleeved shirt, cotton cardigan and a lightweight jacket in case of a slight cool breeze, its always best to be prepared. For boat trips to Capri and day tips to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, where the temperature is warmer and you are more exposed to direct sunlight, we recommend a hat for protection as well as an umbrella to block out the sun.
The one thing we absolutely advise you to bring with you on your holiday to the Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast is your swimming costume, beach towel and flip flops. Just is the most amazing time to enjoy diving into the crystal clear and refreshing waters of the Sorrento Bay, Marina del Cantone or Capri.
My personal recommendations of what to pack:
- A lightweight pashmina or scarf
- T-shirt and Shirts
- Swimming costume and beach towel
- Shorts or Skirts
