We took a private tour here so we could get insight into the history of the park. Our guide was one of the best guides ever. He is from the region and gave us so much insight into the history of the area and the preserve. Such as telling us about the waterfalls along the Amalfi Coast and the running water was the reason for paper mills being built all along the river. Today all that’s left of most of the then are empty shells. There are people on farms along the hillsides where the Amalfi Lemons are grown. Here as well you get to see prehistoric ferns found in only 3 spots in the world. Also, the springs here are covered in moss which has petrified over the millennia and this process continues today. The trek is not easy and requires you to be in good shape. Back home this would be a strenuous hike. Well worth it though as this was one of the highlights of our trip!

Today we took a private walking tour to La Valle Delle Ferriere. Along the way you see the remnants of the many paper mills that used to produce paper, and the only iron mill. They were located along a stream, and they used the power of the water to energise their machinery. Very interesting. At the end of the walk you can choose to continue on and enter into Paradise Lost, an area of almost subtropical plants and waterfalls. The temperature dropped a few degrees and the greenery was stunning. You can descend in the same manner as you ascended, or choose to walk in a look and come down via Pontone. At times it felt like we were in Switzerland, the hills were so steep, but the temperature was Italian. Book a local guide and get the most from this area of the Amalfi Coast.

My husband & I booked this tour and I was lucky enough to get a young guide on the phone named Matteo who was very helpful & emailed me confirmation. The entire experience was quite lovely & our guide, Matteo, spoke excellent English, was very informative, & entertaining. I’d recommend sunscreen, water, comfortable shoes/sneakers, & hat/visor. The trails were lovely & lush with greenery, the waterfalls were amazing. It took us about 2.5-3hrs & was well worth the sweat!
