The days are much longer and the sun sets from behind the Coast and the Island of Capri around 9pm, the bars and outdoor restaurants are busy from opening to closing, the energy is electric. Even in the evenings it’s warm and very pleasant, especially by the sea. Schools are closed for the summer holidays, beach clubs are filled and streets are less busy, although some tourists do enjoy exploring Sorrento’s Old Town, the main street Corso Italia, the charming little harbour of Marina Grande.

If you’re a lover of Roman history and Italian culture, you can explore the Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins, located only half an hour away from Sorrento.

Despite the flow of tourists, Sorrento does very well in preserving its town and offers a very realistic and authentic window into the Italian lifestyle and it’s exactly for this reason, as well as its infinite beauty, that is ideal booking an apartment, or villa, in the Old Town or along the more vibrant Corso Italia, a pedestrianised road with the best shops and cafes Sorrento has to offer.

What to Pack

In the first half of the month, right before the schools finish, beach clubs are still uncrowded and offer all of the best services and amenities for you to spend a total day in relaxation mode. You can hire a sun lounger and umbrella, sip on a glass of wine and have lunch at one of the beach restaurants.

When going on day tours don’t forget shorts, t-shirts and walking shoes. In the evenings we suggest you bring a long sleeved shirt, cotton cardigan and a lightweight jacket in case of a slight cool breeze, its always best to be prepared. For boat trips to Capri and day tips to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, where the temperature is warmer and you are more exposed to direct sunlight, we recommend a hat for protection as well as an umbrella to block out the sun.

The one thing we absolutely advise you to bring with you on your holiday to the Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast is your swimming costume, beach towel and flip flops. Just is the most amazing time to enjoy diving into the crystal clear and refreshing waters of the Sorrento Bay, Marina del Cantone or Capri.
