Spending a day on the beach in Sorrento & Amalfi Coast in October

Us locals live it this way, with a touch of nostalgia because summer is almost over but with the desire to appreciate every ray of sunshine at its best.  October is still a perfect month to enjoy the sea and the days on the beach.

One of the most common questions from our guests is… is it possible to go to the beach in October?

Our answer is: Yes, of course it is possible to go to the beach and if you plan to stay longer than usual and weather allows, I would also say mandatory. Spending half a day on the beach in October, I think is, as well as a panacea for physical and mental health, an experience to immerse yourself in the coastal local culture to discover the native lifestyle, food and wine. Many of the bathing facilities close down at the end of September and only a few beaches remain equipped during the month of October.  This is because not all the coast is sheltered from the crisps autumn winds and at the same time sun-kissed throughout the year. There is one particular beach that possesses both this characteristics and also in winter, when the sun shines in the sky, it also enjoys a temperature warmer than any other coastal area due to its unique exposure to the sun all year round , from morning to sunset.

This is, but not the only, reason why I consider the seashore in Meta di Sorrento one of my favourite places.

I can assure you, that when the sun shines, there is no day of the year that holds, whether it is October or January, it is always the right time to relax a few hours by the sea and enjoy a spaghetti with clams or simply a stuffed caprese sandwich.
It is priceless.

In addition to the more classic excursion on the Amalfi Coast with one of the local drivers specialised in the landscapes and villages of the “divin costiera”, departing from Sorrento and reaching Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello, there is a path that is worth discovering to touch the tip of the sky and admire the beauty of creation “The Path of the Gods”.
Departing every morning at 8.00 am, Nino, an experienced and qualified guide, organizes a daily tour to the path of the Gods with lunch at a local farm, a walk with an astonishing view and a memory that I can assure you, will remain in your heart for many many years. The mild autumn temperatures and the sharpness of the sky will do the rest.

Sorrento in October : Weather and Temperature

If September is still considered summer, October is the transitional month between the end of the summer season and the beginning of autumn. It is truly pleasant to travel on the Amalfi coast in this period of the year.  The streets are gradually emptying, the sunsets offer breathtaking colours and the landscapes fill with shades that waver from the green of the olive trees to the blue of the sea. The sea temperature is colder now but it is still enjoyable to swim in the sea and  if you want to relax, you can spend a day on the beach in Meta di Sorrento or simply enjoy a lunch in front of the spectacular Gulf of Naples.
